December 12, 2022 Webcast

▦ Topic: “Asian American Workers: Diverse Outcomes and Hidden Challenges”

▦ Speakers:

• Kweilin Ellingrud, McKinsey Global Institute Director and Senior Partner in the Minneapolis office

• Jackie Wong, Consultant in the McKinsey Philadelphia office

▦ Moderator: Peter Young, CEO, Young & Partners and C100 Member

▦ Time: 11:00 am EDT, December 12, 2022

This webinar will be the twenty-third in a series of events convened by the Committee of 100 that examine the challenges facing Chinese Americans and other Asian Americans with regard to barriers to advancement in a wide variety of professions in the U.S. and related topics. The goal of this initiative is to contribute to the already significant efforts of organizations and individuals who have been tackling this issue.

This event will be a fireside chat interview of two of the co-authors of a McKinsey report titled, “Asian American Workers: Diverse Outcomes and Hidden Challenges” that was published in September 2022. In the report there is both data and a discussion of a variety of issues such as:

- Is it appropriate to lump all Asian Americans together as a group and not make distinctions between the many groups underneath the category (Chinese, Korean, Indian, Japanese, etc.)

- Does the model minority image create problems with regard to advancement and discrimination?

- Does the perpetual-foreigner misperception contribute to Asian Americans’ lower rates of professional advancement and to their underrepresentation at the highest levels of their fields—even in fields where Asian Americans are overrepresented?

- Do Asian Americans experience lower inclusion and receive less support at work than other ethnic groups?

- What are the five actions that can taken that will offer a constructive start towards solving the four problems listed above?

During the interview, we intend to explore these questions and the findings of the McKinsey report.

The interview will be conducted by Peter Young, Committee of 100 member and Chair of the Committee of 100 Asian American Career Ceiling Initiative. The webinar will be one hour long. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions during the last ten minutes of the webinar.

There is no fee and you can register at: https://c100-12-12-2022.eventbrite.com
